GALLERY IN VENICE
Masks for costume events have always a base of papier mâché; usually it's a colombine mask which covers the upper face, with wide open eyes to create a more intriguing gaze; the forms vary due to the fact that I make them by hand. They can be simple or with wooden sticks, often they're covered with silk velvet that I "mold" using an old Venetian technique and vegetable colours.
Also for the making of headpieces I use the same procedure: a base of papier mâché and velvet, which I then decorate with a variety of materials: feathers, lace, macramé, trimmings, pearls, flowers, fruits, butterflies ....everything that my imagination concocts....
I can assure you that wearing one of these creations at a party, at a special event, or at the carnival magically transports you to a mystical atmosphere! My last piece of advice: Have fun!
